Missing My Pug

Well, as I mentioned in a previous post, I had to find a new home for my buddy, Milo. This weekend, I finally found him a suitable home. The process was frustrating because I figured if all else failed, my state's pug rescue would take him. I thought that if the few options I had didn't work out, I could surrender him. It wasn't so easy.

It was tough to fill out the Surrender form, but I did it (with a few tears). A few days later, the rescue organization called me. They didn't sound like they were interested in taking him, and considered my situation to be not critical. I agreed that it wasn't critical, but it was legitimate. Keeping the baby and dog separate was becoming harder and harder every day. It got to the point where every time I went into the kitchen, there was this comical juggling act involving me, a baby gate, a dog and a toddler. It was destroying our household. They finally said that even though they have 90 pugs in their 40 foster homes, he was number 6 on the waiting list. I was to call them back if they didn't get back to me in 2 weeks.

Well, 4 weeks went by before I called them back. I didn't get a return call. So, I called another rescue for small dogs that is in the town where I work. They said they couldn't help me at the moment, but gave me a lead of someone who might want to take Milo. I didn't connect with this person, unfortunately, so I was back to square one.

The other day, my sister-in-law said she'd ask around at work, and she called me the next day with someone who was interested. I met this lady the following day, and my Milo went home with her. She's so nice and so excited to take care of him. She shared my joy of dressing him up in cute clothes and wanted to sleep with him. That was a huge plus for me, because he used to sleep with me, but I couldn't take his snorting, licking, snoring, choking and general noises all night. So, he was banished from the bedroom some time ago. I know... mean. But, at some point, I need sleep. I'm glad he now has a home with someone who will sleep with him, because I always felt bad about that.

So, he's gone. The house is very quiet. Nobody was there to eat the baby leavings at each meal. Nobody was there to greet me when I came through the door. I had no reason to go outside late at night when shutting the house down. I had no reason to go outside this morning when I got up. So, for today, I stayed inside until about 6 pm. It's quiet now, and it's weird. We haven't been without a dog for 12 years. I suppose I'll get used to is, but it didn't help that all day, my toddler was asking about "Mi-mo" every hour. Ugh.

Despite this, my love of pugs will continue. I will continue working on this site and maybe one day, I'll get another pug. One day when I have no little kids...

Soon to Be Pugless....

Unfortunately, I am soon to be without my Pug buddy, Milo. Unfortunately, he and my toddler are not getting along well. In the interest of my toddler's safety, Milo is going to have to leave our home. Right now it looks like he'll be moving to my parent's home, and I'm OK with that. He's be far away - a day trip - but he'll be with folks who know him and love him. I can check on him, too. At seven years old, I do not want him to be overstressed in this process. Although it breaks my heart to rehome him (we were his second home), but I have to do what I have to do.

Not to worry, though. I will always be in love with pugs. One day, I may be lucky enough to be owned by another pug. In the meantime, I will have to go back to being a pug fan who has no pug. Speaking of which, I have amassed a huge list of pug sites to review. I've been busy with some other projects, but I'll be back to blogging here now.

Lucky for me, this whole issue is not some great emergency situation. So, for now, Milo is snoozing away on the back of the couch, enjoying his freedom, while the baby is in bed. I am enjoying every moment I have left with him.

National Love Your Pet Day

It's late, but I just found out that it is National Love Your Pet Day! I feel bad, because I really haven't been home all day. My little pug, Milo, spent the day with my husband, so he wasn't alone, but if I'd known it was a special day, I would have made a special effort. I'll just have to do it tomorrow.

He needs a bath, so I'll try to get that done and maybe I'll make him some homemade dog treats. I'll be sure to make his day nice and relaxing and give him lots of pampering. It's not an easy task for someone chasing a 1 year old, but I'm sure I can do something to brighten his day.

There's still some time today, too. I'm going to snuggle with Milo on the couch for now. Take a little time and Love Your Pet today!

Children's Books Featuring Pugs

This week, I was talking to my Mom about how to teach my 1 year old son the difference between a dog and a cat. Currently, he calls them both "kitty". We were talking about books with dogs in them, and how none of the dogs look like his dog. Our pug Milo just doesn't resemble the floppy eared dog featured in most books. In fact, he often lays around the house and looks like a cat. At one point, he was calling him a dog, but I can't blame the kid for being confused.

So, I thought I'd look for children's books featuring pugs. To my surprise, there are many out there. I just needed to find them. Here's a link to Children's Pug Books. They look like interesting books, so I think I'll be heading to the library to find some.

I hope everyone is having a lovely New Year!

It's been quiet on the blog for a while... I've been busy with the holidays and such. It's a new year and there are new items to post about already. Stay tuned for some cute products I found.

So, what is your New Year's Resolution for your pug? Mine is that he will get more of my attention this year. The past year was rough due to the new baby. Now that things are settling down, I can devote more of my undivided attention to my pug buddy. The first thing that will happen is he's due for a Spa Day. I like to periodically take him to the groomer and then get him a really nice treat. His birthday is next month, so I'm thinking of what to get him. He got a new bed for Christmas. Maybe some nice homemade treats? Maybe a special homemade blanky? I dunno.

Speaking of Christmas, what did your pug get for Christmas? I'd be curious to know.

While I was out shopping, I saw the cutest pug bag and coin purse at Macy's. Maybe I can find it online...If I do, I'll be sure to share the link.

Today I discovered that Etsy has some really cute homemade pug items. I'll write more about it later, but I just stumbled on it and had to share it.

Where to Find Holiday Themed Pet Products

Today I was thinking of my plans for the holidays. What should I get Milo for Christmas? Should I make him something? Should I buy him something? What could I get him that I won't have to scoop up and take away so the baby doesn't get it?

The jury's still out on those questions, but I did decide I want a _good_ holiday photo of him this year. You know the ones - the photos of the dogs with the santa hats on. Not sure how I'm going to accomplish it. Milo can be very photogenic, but sometimes he just doesn't cooperate. He tends to just get up and walk away or turn his back to me in that stubborn pug way. I guess I need to look up some info about taking holiday photos of dogs.

In the meantime, I did run across some great holiday themed pet products - from santa hats to bell collars, there's a bit of everything. I even found some neat gift ideas.

The cold wet weather has moved in, and if your pug is like mine, your floors are taking a beating. Suddenly, my cute cuddly pug is tracking in mud, dirt, water and leaves. Soon it will be snow. I haven't finished trying to teach my dog to wipe his paws yet. So, this week I have been looking at the various paw cleaning tools that are available.

Cleaning your dogs paws is essential to the health of your dog. To avoid cracked paws or dog paw infection, and to keep your floors clean, you should add paw cleaning to your pug care checklist. After all, you don't want to spend the next few months and the holiday season cleaning the house or hiring floor cleaning services, do you?
